A familiar face is returning to the Belleville Senators as a member of the coaching staff, with the team also officially announcing a new goaltending coach, on Friday.
Former B-Sens forward Ben Sexton has been hired as an assistant coach while veteran pro goalie Justin Peters will be tutoring Belleville’s “tenders”.
Sexton retired from pro hockey at the end of the 2019/20 European season, following an AHL career that saw him play 200 games and record 90 points with Providence, Albany, Belleville and Wilkes-Barre.
During his two seasons with the B-Sens, the Ottawa-area native served as an assistant captain and notched 30 points in 47 games.
Peters’ 15-year pro career stretched across six leagues and multiple countries, with stops in all three major pro leagues in North America, as well as stints in the Russian-based KHL, the German DEL and the Czech league.
The native of Blyth, Ontario started 68 NHL games with Carolina, Washington and Arizona, where he earned 25 wins.
His AHL numbers include 134 wins and 17 shutouts with stops in Albany, Charlotte, Hershey, Tucson and Texas.
The pair join the B-Sens coaching staff after former Assistant Coach Colin Chaulk left for the GTHL and eventually the OHL’s Kingston Frontenacs, while former Goaltending Coach Kory Cooper also joined the Fronts as assistant GM, during the offseason.
