With a look forward to the 2021 year, Belleville’s grant committee is opening up two separate funding streams for applications.
These two specific streams are for Arts and Culture programs and for Social Infrastructure.
Chair of the city’s Grant Committee, Councillor Paul Carr, tells Quinte News the arts and culture money comes out of the Elexicon dividends, and last year it was about $50,000.
The social infrastructure grant comes out of the social infrastructure casino reserve account and those again are for non-profits.
Carr adds, “It’s funding various organizations in assisting the vulnerable within our community.”
“The Social Infrastructure, in previous years we’ve done Food for Learning / We’ve done the Salvation Army programming, Bridge Street United (Church) that provides meals.”
He says, “When signing the deal with the casino I brought up the social infrastructure fund, it’s going to bring some problems.”
“People are going to gamble more than they have and we’re going to run into some difficulties so what better spot to get some funding than from the casino.”
Anyone interested can submit funding requests for Arts and Culture up until 4:30 p.m. February 26, the Social Infrastructure funding stream starts on March 1 and runs to March 31.
