A former medical officer of health for Hastings Prince Edward has sided with a former Progressive Conservative MPP, who was kicked out of caucus after calling for an end to lockdowns.
York Centre MPP Roman Barber had released an open letter last week calling on the Ford Government to move in a different direction when it came to its pandemic response and was accused by the premier of spreading misinformation.
Dr. Richard Schabas, who was HPE’s medical officer of health for more than a decade, has backed Barber, saying he agreed with all five points made in Barber’s letter and credited the MPP for opening up discussions on lockdowns.
In his letter to the Premier, Schabas who was also Ontario’s chief medical officer from 1987 to 1997, says the “lockdown was never part of our planned pandemic response nor is it supported by strong science”, while also warning about the excessive cost of lockdowns.
