Hastings-Lennox and Addington MPP Daryl Kramp says widespread vaccination is the long-term solution to beating COVID-19, but “that doesn’t mean we can sit back”.
Kramp weighed in on the pandemic and more during a recent year in review interview with Quinte News.
He says he’s optimistic, as we head into 2021, because of how local residents handled the majority of the situation.
“People generally respected all of the criteria, whether it’s distancing, hand washing, or masks. With very, very few exceptions people have been just so respectful and considerate. I think that’s one of the reasons we’re not in as bad a position as some of the other regions in the province.”
Kramp added that the COVID-19 pandemic has shed more light on some other areas that need provincial attention, outside of healthcare.
He says one of the major projects moving into 2021 is the expansion of broadband services, to improve connectivity for residents and businesses, where they’ve already committed $680 million.
“We’ve worked very well with the Eastern Ontario organizations like EORN and we’re looking very favourably at moving aggressively to be able to finally once and for all bring this up to an acceptable level so we can compete and we can also provide the safety net that’s there.”
Kramp says he’ll also continue to work hard on his Private Member’s Bill on food literacy, which he hopes will save billions of dollars and help all Ontarians to live a more healthy lifestyle.
