The City of Quinte West council has approved its capital budget of $37,715,000 for 2021 and 2022.
The bulk of the $18,113,500 capital budget for 2021 is booked for public works ($12,345,000), corporate facilities ($1,297,500), parks ($1,247,000) and IT services ($1,050,000).
The large public works budget allocation is mainly set to go towards road work. Among some of the noteworthy projects next year, $525,000 is slated to go towards electric vehicle charging stations, $540,000 towards IT fibre and fibre partnerships and $200,000 for a replacement transit bus.

When the $11,094,000 budget for water and sewers was brought up for approval, councillors O’Neil and Roseblade raised the point of reallocating money from the federal gas tax reserve balance towards the water and sewer budget. Mayor Harrison opposed this saying that would take money away from other sectors that need it. The matter was brought to a recorded vote where the budget was passed, as is, by a vote of eight to five.
As was expected council approved the sale of a lot in the North Murray Industrial Park to the owners of Bryan’s Auction Services.
Councillors gave thanks to first responders and Hydro One workers who worked diligently during the weekend’s storm to keep people safe.
