A boost for tourism-related businesses in Prince Edward County is coming.
It was announced today (Thursday) that FedDev Ontario will invest $500,000 to support the municipality’s tourism sector.
The municipality, in partnership with the Chamber of Commerce, will provide up to $20,000 to local tourism-related businesses.
The funds will support costs associated with recovery and reopening for business, including acquiring personal protective equipment, renovating to accommodate social distancing and implementing new safety protocols.
It is expected the funding will support 50 businesses and maintain at least 100 jobs.
Parliamentary Secretary to the Minister of Economic Development and Official Languages Kate Young on behalf of the Honourable Mélanie Joly said they want to support the businesses operating in the tourism sector so they can keep highlighting the region’s attractions.
Bay of Quinte MP Neil Ellis says this investment in Prince Edward County will deliver support directly to local enterprises to help them adapt and maintain valuable jobs.
Prince Edward County Mayor Steve Ferguson says these have been challenging and uncertain times to say the least and they are grateful that the Government of Canada is supporting the efforts of Prince Edward County businesses to keep the community and visitors safe and healthy.
Applications and more information on the funding can be found at the Prince Edward County Chamber of Commerce’s website.
