Public health officials say a resident in Northumberland County who had COVID-19 has died, while Hastings Prince Edward saw a spike in confirmed cases over the weekend.
A release from Haliburton Kawartha Pine Ridge Medical Officer of Health Dr. Lynn Noseworthy says while the COVID-19 caseload in Northumberland hasn’t been high, “this person’s unfortunate passing is a reminder that we can’t become complacent about the virus”.
Dr. Noseworthy says everyone should continue to practice frequent hand washing, social distancing and other pandemic-related public health practices.
This is the first death related to COVID-19 in Northumberland County since the pandemic began, with officials reporting two current active cases there.
Meanwhile, in Hastings-Prince Edward four new cases were confirmed over the weekend, with two of them connected to travel, one to close contact and the other pending.
That brings the total active caseload in HPE to five.
