The Hastings and Prince Edward District School Board is responding to accusations from a local teachers union rep that it is not following Ministry of Education guidelines around students wearing masks.
A release from the Ontario Secondary School Teachers Federation District 29 on Wednesday accused the board of being negligent in saying that students who refused to wear a mask would not be removed from class.
In its response Thursday, the HPEDSB says representatives met with OSSTF and Ministry of Labour officials who determined that the board is in full compliance with public health and ministry directives and that the union’s complaint did not require further investigation.
The board is apologizing for the confusion and any “added anxiety that the OSSTF District 29 leadership unnecessarily created for families and students” and says it will “continue to focus on students, their families and staff, through a smooth calm and measured reentry to schools”.
