Prince Edward county is looking at plans to control future cannabis production facilities, while residents in one area of the county are concerned about an existing pot grow.
On Thursday, the county council’s Committee of the Whole will be considering a staff recommendation that calls for a land use planning report on the impact of cannabis cultivation, process and production, and to consider policies to regulate such uses.
It also calls for an interim control by-law to be in effect for one year to prohibit any new or expanded cultivation, processing or production of cannabis in the county.
This would not apply to cultivation of up to four plants for personal use.
To quote the report, “The proposed interim control by-law would give staff appropriate time to review land use policies and bring council a full review and recommendations to address the current concerns surrounding cannabis production.”
Some residents of Fenwood Gardens have expressed concerns about odours from a cannabis grow operation on County Road 28, in the former Decker Greenhouse.
Prince Edward County OPP tell Quinte News this company does have a valid licence from Health Canada.
People can make complaints to Health Canada, the governing body that issues the cannabis licence.
Police would need a warrant to enforce any policy.
