Two people from the GTA and Southern Ontario have been charged in relation to an incident in Trenton we first told you about on Sunday.
Quinte West OPP attempted to conduct a traffic stop on the eastbound 401 shortly after 2 on Sunday morning.
The driver fled from police but the vehicle was found in a parking lot on Sidney Street shortly after. Several parked vehicles, including an OPP cruiser and an apartment building were hit before the two occupants fled on foot.
The OPP Emergency Response Team (ERT), OPP Tactics and Rescue Unit (TRU) and OPP Canine Unit conducted a search, during which two loaded handguns, a large quantity of cash, a cell phone and ammunition were seized.
The two people were located in a nearby wooded area and arrested without incident around 7 a.m. There were no injuries reported.
The investigation is continuing and is being assisted by the Quinte West OPP Crime Unit and Technical Collision Investigators (TCI).
Abdullahi Sabrioie, 19 years old, of Kitchener and Hamza Ali, 18 years old, of Etobicoke have each been charged with the following:
- unauthorized possession of a prohibited or restricted firearm – two counts
- possession of loaded prohibited or restricted firearm – two counts
- transport firearm, weapon, prohibited device in a careless manner – two counts
- possession of prohibited device or ammunition for a dangerous purpose
Sabrioie has additionally been charged with resist peace officer.
Ali has additionally been charged with flight from peace officer and dangerous operation of a motor vehicle.
The two were held in custody and are scheduled to appear by video in Belleville court on Monday (today).
