Opposition to a new hotel planned for Belleville was presented at Monday night’s virtual meeting of the Planning Advisory Committee.
The 95-suite Tru By Hilton would be located on Millennium Parkway.
The proposal had come before the committee earlier this summer but was rescheduled because some residents had objected and wanted to be heard.
There was also the issue of COVID-19 restrictions on meetings.
Four residential property owners on Cloverleaf Drive opposed the proposal.
Area resident Kate Donaldson.
Another resident, John Dunkin, said the hotel would be so close to his back yard he would be able to “throw a ball and break a hotel window.”
The residents raised a number of concerns, including impact on the residential character of Cloverleaf Drive, property values, height of the hotel, increased traffic in the area, reduced privacy, noise and removal of trees.
Community Living Belleville, which is located next to the proposed hotel site, has concerns about reduced yard setbacks, garbage issues and sight lines for vehicle traffic.
The committee will receive a staff report on the hotel proposal at its next meeting, before making any recommendation to city council.
