The mayor of Prince Edward County is encouraging day visitors to pick another destination to celebrate the August long weekend and to visit another time.
In a video posted to YouTube on Wednesday Mayor Steve Ferguson says The County is always appealing to many people and families, but that popularity, coupled with those trying to escape the COVID-19 lockdown, has put a strain on PEC’s beaches, and other amenities.
“Provincial and municipal beaches are crowded and are closing within hours of opening. Thousands of day-use beach visitors get turned away each weekend, creating gridlock on County roads. Little Bluff Conservation Area is adjusting its hours of operation until further notice due to overcrowding and other issues. This is not the experience we want you to have”
Ferguson says County residents pride themselves on their hospitality by providing “unique, relaxing and memorable experiences”, but he’s encouraging visitors to come mid-week, later in the season, or in the fall.
