Over the next few weeks Belleville residents will get a chance to give opinions on the future of the city’s parks and recreation.
That public consultation will include some football input.
A consultant is already working on a new Parks and Recreation Master Plan.
Manager of Transportation and Operations Joseph Reid tells Quinte News he expects public consultation sessions will be held in the upcoming month.
In a report to city council this week, Reid indicated major upgrades to Mary Ann Sills Park, to accommodate the newly-formed Quinte Skyhawks Football team could cost $2.5 million.
Belleville was awarded an U-22 expansion team in the east division, with their first game slated for next August.
The team plays four regular season games, and more if they go to the playoffs.
Upgrades in Phase One which would cost about $500,000, includes a bleacher system, press box, movement of a pole and lights, fencing, and internet.
Dressing rooms and other upgrades would come later on, with new turf needed in the next five years.
The group which brought the Quinte Skyhawks Football program to Belleville, No Limits Youth, is looking to fundraise part of the cost.
