On Friday July 24, 2020 just before 1:30 p.m., officers from the Prince Edward County Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police responded with other emergency crews to a report of a plane crash in Sophiasburgh Ward.
Officers located the aircraft in a farmer’s field.
A 69-year-old male pilot from Leeds and the Thousand Islands Township was transported to hospital with minor injuries.
Earlier in the day, the ultralight had conducted an emergency landing in the field after losing power.
The aircraft attempted a take-off and lost power shortly thereafter, crashing into the field.
Notifications were made to Transport Canada as well as the Transportation Safety Board.
