The residents of the Trenton Memorial Lodge seniors building adjacent to Trenton Memorial Lodge were all smiles on Tuesday, and for more than one reason.
A group called the Farley Street Make Some Noise Crew stopped in to play some music and lift some spirits during the pandemic. They were also there for another reason.

Ruth Larsen met her husband and emigrated to Canada in 1957. Settling down in Trenton, her husband took a job at the Bata shoe company, and Ruth at the ValuMart with the Jeffrey’s in downtown Trenton. She had six children with the first being born right at Trenton Memorial Hospital. Ruth wanted to give back to the community she loved this week with a gift of $250,000. In hopes that it might inspire others to do the same if they can.
Ruth has enjoyed good health most of her life, but she also appreciates having a well equipped hospital close to home. She says “she understands that the government cannot cover the cost of medical equipment, and the importance of everyone trying to donate what they can, to ensure their hospital has the tools necessary for the doctors and nurses to provide the best care and treatment for their patients. Our family has always been proud of TMH and fortunate to have it close to home; we want it to be there for future generations.”
This donation to the Trenton Memorial Hospital Foundation will support its top health care priorities. This is the second gift by Ruth, as a previous gift was also made to BGHF. “We are honoured with Ruth’s generousity to TMHF,” says Foundation Chair Darrell Smith. “A gift like this will have a very significant impact on our small hospital. The funds will be put to immediate use to help us provide life-saving diagnosis and treatment for our patients. We can’t thank Ruth enough for her generous gift as thousands of people will benefit from it.”
Ruth’s children, say they are very proud of their mother’s dedication to the community and her generousity to two very important hospitals.
