A problem-plagued seniors/assisted living housing building that has been given a makeover is drawing a lot of interest.
According to local real estate agent Jamie Troke, there have been a number of viewings of the former Bel Marine Retirement Residence on Dundas East in Belleville.
In late 2016, Bel Marine had been issued orders under the Fire Safety and Building Code for not meeting standards.
The Electrical Safety Authority was called in and dozens of residents were move out.
Local hotels provided a place to stay for those residents, and eventually they had to find alternate living arrangements.
Since then, the facility has undergone major renovations, including a new facade.
Troke says about 70% of the retrofit is complete in the 61-room building, that sits on 2.6 acres. The three-storey building sits at the corner of Dundas Street East and Bleecker Avenue. The building is 42,000 square feet.
He says interested parties have looked at it to be used as a nursing home, assisted living home, a retirement home, or a student residence.
It could also be an apartment or condo building.
Troke says the asking price is $4.8 million and they have received a number of offers.
