Quinte Labour Council is adding their voice to the call for upper level governments to provide emergency funding for municipalities.
President of the Quinte Labour Council Marg Bourgoin says in a letter that COVID-19 has impacted everyone, including municipal governments.
The letter states that important services residents rely on, including emergency response, transit, public housing, long term care, day care, libraries, recreation and more have seen devastating impacts.
The letter continues on to say municipalities are now facing serious financial shortfalls and this will result in significant delays in local economic recovery, leading to the Canadian Labour Congress asking for provincial and federal governments to save municipalities by providing immediate emergency assistance.
