The Quinte West Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) along with the City of Quinte West would like to remind members of the public about the program launched in an effort to make online transactions safer for buyers and sellers.
The purpose of Project Safe Trade is to create a community safe zone at an OPP detachment parking lot in which to facilitate online property transactions.
Creating a community safe zone is about moving online transactions away from secluded parking lots, personal residences or other areas and bringing them to a public place.
They are inviting members of the public to use the OPP safe-trade-designated parking space at the detachment.
These safe trade parking space is available at all times with no appointment necessary.
The OPP does not monitor or mediate the use of these premises for these purposes.
Online transaction safety tips:
- Meet in a busy public place
- Bring a trusted friend or family member along as a witness
- Keep transactions to daylight hours
- Do not erase emails, texts or voicemails between yourself and the seller/buyer
