Red tape lifted for new or expanded patios
Quinte West is following other nearby municipalities and cutting some red tape for restaurants to put in temporary patios.
The move is aimed an increasing business as COVID-19 restrictions begin to be lifted.
Council easily passed a motion Monday that says any business which meets specific criteria, is not required to apply for a new or extended patio with the Alcohol Gaming Corporation of Ontario.
The patios still have to be registered with the city, but detailed plans aren’t required.
So far five business have applied for the temporary patio licences.
Councillors urge mask use
Quinte West Councillors have once again thanked those frontline workers who are keeping people safe during the pandemic and also members of the public for doing their part to reduce the spread of COVID-19.
However, some took issue with residents who aren’t wearing masks in local stores.
Councillor Sally Freeman was one of them and says wearing a mask might be awkward or uncomfortable, but she feels it’s in the best interest of the community for everyone to wear one when they can’t follow social distancing protocols.
Council also gave kudos to staff at the Duncan McDonald Community Gardens for their work in expanding testing in the city.
