Despite the flurry of financial aid programs being announced daily by both the federal and provincial governments due to the COVID-19 pandemic a lot of small business owners still aren’t getting any.
One of those owners is Brandy Calvert Ringelmann of Off the Hook Boutique and Gallery in Trenton.
Her business situation makes her ineligible for the various government assistance programs and she’s not alone.
“I’ve looked at all of them on offer so far and they’re of little to no use. I know the Rural Relief Program has been announced and it’s supposed to catch businesses falling through the cracks, but where is it? If we can’t apply it doesn’t really exist does it? Very small businesses often don’t have a lot of money in the bank and we’re worried about losing our businesses. There’s only so far personal savings can go.”
Several business owners plan a protest at Bay of Quinte MP Neil Ellis’ Belleville office Friday starting at 9 a.m. and invite others to join in.
