A company with a branch in Belleville is taking measures to protect workers and consumers as it continues to operate during the pandemic.
Parmalat Canada, which operates the Black Diamond Cheese plant, says it originally cut the number of staff at its Belleville plant to follow government-implemented social distancing rules, but limiting the number of workers in the interest of space slowed down production.
The plant’s COVID-19 Crisis Team met to identify areas where it was difficult to follow those rules and has implemented a number of safety measures including installing plexiglass barriers in manual packing areas and having employees wear face shields as needed, along with the regular maintenance and cleaning procedures.
The company says keeping employees safe and boosting morale are the main objectives to help continue the goal of feeding people across the country.
