A registered nurse with Quinte Health Care is promoting an innovative way to help limit the facial irritation for healthcare workers, caused by wearing masks over their ears for long periods of time.
The Belleville General Hospital Foundation is highlighting Mary Storms as a Community Hero after her idea to sew buttons onto the sides of a headband and attach the straps of the mask there, instead of on the ears, and is giving them away to their coworkers.
She says she got the idea and plans from a sewing group she’s in on social media.
Anyone else with a sewing machine and some extra fabric and buttons can easily do the same thing, and help to make life working through the COVID-19 pandemic a little more comfortable.
Storms says “it warms her heart to see the community coming together” in times like these.
