Last Friday, approximately 150 Loyalist College students moved from their campus residence into four local Belleville hotels to ensure social distancing measures were in place to protect the students.
The task of moving students from residence posed several challenges for the college, including finding the facility to house the students safely, and providing meals to these students who would normally have a shared kitchen to prepare their meals. The college staff worked quickly to find accommodations for the students.
While the hotels offer breakfast, lunch and dinner, arrangements are still necessary. The request went out on Saturday for local restaurants to share their menus in order for the college to make arrangements for individually packaged meals for the students.
“The willingness of local businesses has been tremendous,” says Loyalist College President Dr. Ann Marie Vaughan. “During these challenging times, it brings out the strong community spirit of the region. We are very grateful for the support.”
Downtown restaurants, including Bangkok Thai Station, Chilangos Mexican Restaurant, Mr. Zed’s, Bourbon Street Pizza and Gourmet Diem, are working with the college to support the need for individual meals for these students.
Loyalist College is picking up the tab for accommodations and meals, while the restaurants cook and look after delivery.
