Trenton Golden Hawks coach and general manager Peter Goulet has been named the Executive of the Year in the Ontario Junior Hockey League.
The Golden Hawks were 40-10-2-3 under Goulet, tied for second best in the 22 team OJHL. They were ranked 13th in the Canadian Junior Hockey League.
The Golden Hawks eliminated Whitby in five games in the opening round of the playoffs and were getting ready for a highly anticipated series with the Wellington Dukes when the season was ended due to the coronavirus.
In a release from the OJHL Goulet said “It’s a great organization. It all starts with ownership, as with any great company or great hockey team. They treat everybody, from the fans to our staff to our players, like gold. They’re great. They care about people. And they want to win. They want to be the best every year. It all starts with owners Rod Finney and Sandy Smith. Two great people.”
Trenton’s Director of Hockey Operations John McDonald added “Pete came into a situation and he worked very hard. We built a pretty good team. The boys bought into what he was doing. It was pretty exciting”.
Goulet was in his first year as coach and general manager of the Golden Hawks. He joined the team from East Division rival Kingston after the Voyageurs were sold and moved to Collingwood. Goulet had held the dual position with the V’s for two seasons.
He was also an assistant coach of the Brampton Beast of the ECHL under then head coach Colin Chaulk who is now an assistant coach with the Belleville Senators.
