Belleville Council will vote on a recommendation on Monday to bring mobility transit services under the Belleville Transit umbrella and stop contracting out those services, as is the current practice.
A staff report says contracted services for mobility transit cost the city $425,000 in 2019 and more than $357,000 in 2019, and bringing that service in-house would put that cost at just under $361,000 for 2020.
The city already owns and maintains three mobility buses and the 2020 cost includes the hiring of three drivers and two dispatch staff, to comply with provincial guidelines.
Because of unionized wage increases, the cost would rise to $380,400 in 2021.
If approved, the city would take over mobility transit services as of June 1 of this year, with any added costs of the transition to come from the Provincial Gas Tax account.
