Belleville residents will soon have an opportunity to give a review of just how members of city council are performing.
Councillor Bill Sandison brought forward the issue at a recent city council meeting, proposing that Belleville implement a council member Performance Review Survey.
This would allow and encourage resident feedback on the individual performance of councillors.
The idea is to assist council members in gauging taxpayer satisfaction with the decisions they’re making.
Do those decisions align with ward and city priorities?
Councillor Paul Carr indicated he preferred ward meetings, where he would get “feedback by conversations.”
Mayor Mitch Panciuk said he hoped people would take up the offer for public consultation.
Sandison indicated he would like to see the survey have six questions and a comment section.
It would be an annual opportunity for public comment.
The proposal was approved on a recorded vote, with Councillors Garnet Thompson, Paul Carr and Chris Malette voting against.
