Quinte West continued its campaign to gain provincial government support regarding high water levels in Lake Ontario, during the Rural Ontario Municipal Association conference in Toronto this week.
Mayor Jim Harrison tells Quinte News the Minister of Natural Resources and Forestry, John Yakabuski, supported just what Quinte West has been pushing for.
The mayor said, “We also suggested a blanket permit to cover a number of properties dealing with high water issues. They said they would look at that but have to ensure that whatever one does doesn’t negatively affect someone else.”
Harrison says Quinte West also gained some assurance from provincial ministries for support of any economic development project that will help increase jobs.
He says improving the labour force is a priority since the city doesn’t have any surplus labour force, and in fact the unemployment rate is below four percent.
