Rotary Outdoor Fitness Park
The Quinte Rotary Club is celebrating its 100th anniversary and helping residents keeping fit outdoors at the same time.
Rotary will construct an Outoor Fitness Park along the Bayshore Trail.
Chair of the 100th anniversary Bill McKay told city council this week the idea is to have eight stations in the park area east of the children’s play space on the bayshore.
There will be various equipment including body lifts.
Rotary donated the Musical Garden at West Riverside Park in the spring.
The plan is to purchase and donate the equipment with city staff completing the installation.
The cost for Rotary is $33,000.
The installation will cost the city $6,000, which staff indicated is within the department’s budget.
In his report to council, General Manager of Tranportation and Operations, Joseph Reid, says that the city will be developing a process surrounding such partnerships with community groups in the Master Plan which is now underway.
Belleville helping to fund Grace Inn Shelter
Belleville is putting its weight behind the new homeless shelter in the city.
Monday night, city council gave pre-budget approval to an annual grant of $50,000 for the Grace Inn Shelter, over the next three years.
The money will come from the city’s Social Infrastructure Fund.
Council indicated there will still be money available for the city’s Warm Centre that opens for the homeless on cold nights, throughout the winter.
