Thousands of children in Belleville, Quinte West, and Hasting County enjoyed the summer of 2019 a little more thanks to a program called Food2Go.
The program, run by Hastings County, provides food to children in social housing when schools out, in July and August.
Supervisor of Community Relations Stephen Price tells Quinte News the point of the program is to provide a healthy meal, as is provided during the school year.
Price says the meals consist of fruit, dairy and grain products.
A total of 22,534 meals were provided this year, mainly to 13 social housing neighbourhoods in Belleville and Quinte West.
The program also delivers meals to Bancroft and Deseronto.
Price also reported to Hastings County Council on Thursday that 282 children participated in the Backyard Bonanza program this summer.
This is a free summer camp that Price says aims at building leadership skills, exercise and new experiences.
