The Hastings Prince Edward Health Unit is issuing a public health alert after a drug that can cause irreversible overdoses has been found in our community.
The alert was issued after the drug etizolam was confirmed in two local overdose deaths since the spring and an increased presence of the drug has been suspected in recent weeks.
Medical Officer of Health Dr. Piotr Oglaza said this is an incredibly dangerous drug as it does not respond to Naloxone.
The press release recommends people still administer Naloxone if an overdose is suspected and call 911.
