Quinte West Council has approved the city’s share of funding towards the Eastern Ontario Regional Network and will pay less than planned.
EORN aims to achieve 99% coverage for broadband cellular and internet service across Eastern Ontario, with municipalities from across the eastern part of the province and both senior levels of government, pitching in towards the $213 million project.
Director of Finance David Clazie told council on Monday that the city will be chipping in a little more than $293,000, which is less than the originally budgeted amount of $407,000.
The federal and provincial governments are committing $71 million each, with the eastern Ontario municipalities combining to fund the remaining $10.1 million.
