Hastings County is interested in taking over the Hastings Heritage Trail, but wants to make sure the province pays its share of any upgrades.
The County and the province share ownership of the trail 50-50, but now the province wants out.
The Heritage Trail runs from Glen Miller in Quinte West, north through the County to Lake St. Peter, north of Bancroft.
It was a former railway line.
Hastings County Director of Facilities and Capital Infrastructure Jim Duffin tells Quinte news there are some concerns to consider.
And the county is concerned about the condition of the bridges, some about 100 years old.
Duffin says, “Eastern Ontario Trails Alliance manage the trails for different groups. We let them manage, do maintenance and collect revenue from trail permits. ATVs need permits, walking is free.”
County Council has instructed staff to develop a business case related to the full ownership.
