The lack of rainfall recently has prompted Quinte Conservation to declare a Level 2 low water condition.
The condition is for Moira, Napanee and Salmon watersheds. The Prince Edward region watershed remains at a Level 1 Low Water condition.
Watershed Monitoring Coordinator Lynette Lambert says forecasts don’t show much rain for the next couple of weeks and the warm and dry conditions are expected to continue.
A level 2 low water condition indicates a potentially serious water supply problem and the Conservation Authority is asking residents and businesses in the region to reduce non-essential water usage by 20 per cent.
Many wells within the watershed have groundwater levels below normal for this time of year and typically groundwater levels decline into the fall.
Lambert added unless the region receives a steady amount of rain over the next month or so, the low water conditions will remain.
