Belleville has run past the $800,000 mark for the Terry Fox Run, and is ready to run again.
The Terry Fox Run for cancer gets underway Sunday morning at West Zwick’s Park, at the Lions Pavilion.
Volunteer organizer Vicki Samaras tells Quinte News more than $800,000 has been raised in Belleville since the event started in 1982.
That includes schools and community fundraising.
Samaras tells Quinte News, “The money goes directly to cancer research, toward finding a cure.”
The run is in honour of Terry Fox who ran halfway across Canada, despite having lost a leg to cancer.
She says people can choose how they run or walk.
Samaras encourages people to participate.
Registration begins at 8:30 a.m. with the run/walk beginning at 9:30 a.m.
Participants can register later as well.
There will be Culligan water stations and the city’s mobile water cart on site.
A distributor for Weston’s Bakery is donating breakfast, No Frills is donating a warm bagel breakfast with coffee.
Next year will be the 40th anniversary of the Terry Fox Run.
