Belleville paid tribute to business owner Simon Kang Monday night.
City council honoured Kang who serves as interpreter, planner and cultural advisor for the city’s exchanges with sister city Gunpo, South Korea.
Mayor Mitch Panciuk presented the key to the city to Kang.
Former mayors, Ross McDougall and Neil Ellis, now Bay of Quinte MP, also spoke of Kang’s assistance in the exchanges with the Korean city.
Kang’s father George helped start the sister city relationship between Belleville and Gung Po.
In making the presentation, Mayor Panciuk said, “Simon takes care of everything, explains everything…He tells us what to expect and what we need to do to do our jobs correctly.”
“Our city is better because of our relationship with Gung Po and the biggest reason is because of Simon and (wife) Cindy.”
