Record outflows have been reduced as Lake Ontario water levels continue to drop.
Water levels reached 75.50m and record outflows were reduced to 10,110 metres cubed per second on Wednesday.
The International Joint Commission states this flow rate is still 200m cubed per second above the safe navigation limit and remains a record-high value for this time of the year.
The outflow strategy for the remainder of the year from the IJC is intended to sustain the accelerated decline of Lake Ontario levels through the end of the year.
This strategy also brings some risks as the water will move faster creating unsafe cross-currents and erosion that impact boating, swimming and navigation.
Sustained record outflows of 10,400 m3/s were maintained for 69 days, 15 days longer than in 2017.
