The 2019 Hastings Plowing Match and Farm Show kicked off Wednesday.
Brian and April Thompson, along with their family, hosted this year’s event, which according to President Kim DeMille was four years in the making.
She told Quinte News, they try to work on land that has just had wheat on it, as it leaves wheat stubble, which DeMille says is a better surface upon which to host the event.
She says including parking, the match and show takes up almost 200 acres.
Audio PlayerThompson told the crowd during the opening ceremony he and his family were happy to host this great event.
His farm has been in existence for 68 years and represents four generations of farmers.
Drones are being used as well, to help in analyzing different field areas for drought and fertilizer requirements.
Audio PlayerDeMille says there are 237 vendors participating this year including new vendors such as Signal Brewery. She says they fit right in because craft breweries use local crops and have become a significant part of the agriculture industry.
The Plowing Match and Farm Show continues Thursday, August 22.
