More doctors coming
Belleville’s in line for three new doctors under its Physician Recruitment Program, and all three have ties to the local area.
This week, city council approved three new family physician applicants to the program.
It provides each person with $150,000 over six years in exchange for a promise of at least five years practice in the city.
Dr. Kaci Sheldon Carter will begin her practice in two years.
The other two, Justin Whitaker and Maggie Li, are starting medical school and will set up their practices in 2025.
Bike path trying to head west
Plans to extend a multi-use pathway through Belleville’s west end have run into another hitch.
An alternate plan to run the bike path along the north side of Moira Street West has been abandoned because of traffic volumes on the street.
The Transportation Committee reported to council this week that, because of traffic volumes and speed, the paved shoulders are not recommended.
Council agreed and CAO Rod Bovay indicated that since the subdivison in the area is “moving fast” the city may be able to extend the bike path west on Avondale to Avonlough Road.
Bovay said “maybe Loyalist College will then build a path” to meet up with it.
