It looks like Belleville’s search for a city museum will go to the city’s capital budget debate this fall.
Mayor Mitch Panciuk tells Quinte News the city has a preliminary estimate on the possibility of converting the closed historic old train station into a city museum.
Panciuk says that will probably go to city council through the capital budget process in October.
Panciuk says one concern is the fact the rumbling of trains might damage some artifacts.
He says, “The whole idea here is to find out if there’s a way that we can achieve two goals with one facility and, if not, then we’ll have to look at other items. Either way there needs to be modifications to the Glanmore National Historic Site. We want to return that to be a full exhibit, the whole building, not just the parts that are open to the public now.”
Panciuk emphasized the city does need its own museum to preserve its history.
