A longtime City of Belleville employee has been promoted to the municipality’s top staff job.
Mayor Mitch Panciuk announced on Tuesday that Rod Bovay, who has been the interim CAO since Rick Kester and the city parted ways in late June, will take over that post effective immediately.
Panciuk says Bovay’s 30 years experience was one of the many reasons he was at the top of the list of more than 70 candidates who applied for the job.
Bovay agreed that his experience will serve him well in his new role.
He added that he’s looking forward to working closely with the Mayor, councillors and all staff, to move the city forward.
When asked about criticism about the length of time it takes the city to finish various projects, Bovay says a lot of that is out of their hands, but he hopes his experience in the Developmental Services Department will help.
As far as who is replacing him as Director of Developmental Services, Bovay says that decision has yet to be made.
But in the meantime, he says current deputy of that department Ray Ford, will move into that job in the interim.
