Belleville police were involved with a major crash on Highway 401 east yesterday afternoon and evening.
Because of the huge amount of traffic backed up behind the collision, some drivers chose to drive the wrong way, going west in the eastbound lanes.
Over three hours, Belleville police stopped and charged several drivers and then rerouted them off the highway.
Police warn drivers to never drive the wrong way as it can lead to more serious collisions.
The multi-vehicle crash involved as many as 10 vehicles. One woman was killed and several other people were injured.
Highway 401 eastbound was completely closed until around 2 o’clock Saturday morning.
Update: The Highway 401 Eastbound was re-opened at approximately 7:30 a.m., Saturday morning.
