The Farming Assistance Grant Program in Prince Edward County potentially isn’t going into effect this year.
Council in Prince Edward County will be asked at their meeting today (Thursday) to discontinue the Farming Grant for New and Young Farmers because the tax ratio for this year was reduced.
A report to be presented during the Committee of the Whole meeting at Shire Hall states council adopted a farm tax ratio that would be revenue neutral to farmers this year, and this provides relief to all farmers in the County, not just new and young farmers.
Council had set aside $40,000 during the budget process for the New and Young Farmers grant.
The program began in September 2018 and a total of 20 grant applications were received that saw the County provide over $12,000 in grants.
Council meets at 1 p.m.
