There’s new hope for for a bike route through Belleville’s west end.
About five years ago money was set aside to develop the route which would travel through Meagher Place in the west end.
This ran into opposition from residents of the area.
During the delays some of the money set aside for development of the bike route has been used for other things, but there is still about $2 million remaining.
Eric Lindenberg of Belleville on Bikes group appeared before city council this week suggesting the Bridge Street West bike route be extended using Coleman Street to Moira Street West to Loyalist College.
Chair of the city’s Active Transportation and Traffic Committee Councillor Garnet Thompson tells Quinte News he doesn’t know whether or not this route had been considered before but he has asked Lindenberg to submit the proposal.
Thompson says the money is still available for the route’s development.
He’s not sure how much work would need to be done if the plan was adopted.
The proposal will be on the city’s Active Transportation and Traffic Committee agenda later this month.
