A consultant’s report is recommending that Belleville add another museum facility in the city, and complete the restoration of Glanmore National Historic site.
Barbara Vaughan of Vaughan Group presented the report to city council on Monday night.
It indicates that museum attendance has increased by 33% since 2014.
This includes people from six other Canadian provinces, 14 cities from 10 different United States states, and from 18 countries around the world.
The planning process has occurred over the last couple of years, including a pubic survey completed by 300 people.
It highlights lack of space in the museum, need for more staff, and limited funding for promotions.
Key priorities identified were restoration, programming and marketing.
Ninety percent of the public think the community would benefit from a Belleville Civic Museum.
City Manager of Museums Rona Rustige tells Quinte News there’s another major issue at Glanmore.
Among the weaknesses of the site as identified in the Vaughan Group report are: lack of space for programming and travelling exhibits, balancing the historical house while also being a community museum and lack of meeting space for events, collections and exhibits.
