In a four day period, Central Hastings OPP charged 11 people with driving with a hand-held communication device.
The charge, which is a portion of the distracted driving laws, has seen the penalties increase as of January 1 of this year.
Fine increases are now up to $1,000, three demerit points for a first offence, a three-day licence suspension and rising penalties for subsequent convictions.
Those holding a G1, G2, M1 or M2 licence who are convicted of distracted driving will receive the same fines, but longer licence suspensions, as opposed to demerit points.
