The local Area Director of Grain Farmers Ontario says the soggy stretch of weather is having an impact on the spring planting season.
Lloyd Crowe spoke to Quinte News and says farmers across Eastern Ontario are talking about the cold weather and wet ground that’s putting them behind schedule when it comes to planting things like corn, soybeans and spring grains.
He says the longer they wait to plant, the less they’ll have to harvest.
Crowe adds that the winter weather also had some significant negative impacts on other crops as well.
Crowe says most of the wheat farmers he’s spoken to have had similar results with their wheat and that they’ll now rip up those fields to start planting more soybeans, corn and other summer grains.
