Belleville Fire Prevention Officers have wrapped up their investigation into a mid-morning fire on Avondale Road Wednesday and are crediting an alert Canada Post carrier for reporting the sound of a smoke alarm and the smell of smoke.
FPO Norm Mitts says firefighters forced entry into the home through an entrance glass panel and were able to extinguish the “very minor fire”.
The residents weren’t home at the time and Mitts says the small blaze, which was contained to a computer desk, had the potential to grow much bigger if the postal worker hadn’t made the call.
Mitts says the fire has been deemed to be accidental and there were no injuries.
Damage costs are around $500 which would be the estimated cost of replacing the broken glass.
