They were down 3-1 in the series and 4-3 mid way in the third period but the Wellington Dukes are going to the third round of the OJHL playoffs.
Tyson Gilmour tied the game at 8:23 of the third and Quinn Hanna notched the game and series winner at 19:14 as Wellington beat Whitby 5-4 to win game 7 of the East Division final.
Elijah Gonsalves scored twice with an assist with Keenan Eddy adding the other.
It’s the second year in a row the defending OJHL champions have come back from a 3-1 series deficit in round 2 and they did it by winning 3 games in Whitby.
Wellington will face Bloomfield native Jett Alexander and the North York Rangers in the South East Conference final. Alexander was named the OJHL’s Goaltender of the Year.
The Napanee Raiders are one win away from the Provincial Junior “C” Hockey League championship and it could come tonight. Napanee is at Uxbridge for game 4 of the final. If they win it the Raiders will have swept their way through all three rounds.
