The Quinte area has a world swimming champion.
John Tinney captured gold in the 100 metre freestyle event at the Special Olympics World games in Abu Dhabi and Dubai in the United Arab Emerites. Tinney also won silver as a member of the Canadian 4×50 metre relay while adding a 4th place finish in the 100 metre backstroke.
Tinney is a member of the Belleville-Quinte West Special Olympics Swim team. He was selected to the National team after winning 4 gold medals at the Canadian Summer National Games in Antigonish Nova Scotia last summer.
John Tinney trained for the World Games with Andrea Dirocco and Jessica Purchase at One to One Fitness.
