After a shootout loss to the Cleveland Monsters on Friday night, the Belleville Senators got some revenge on Saturday, picking up a 4-2 win.
Drake Batherson had three points and Marcus Högberg made 35 saves, with Stefan Elliott and Filip Chlapik also scoring for Belleville.
Head Coach Troy Mann says his team’s start set the tone for the game and despite letting off the gas a bit in the second, played well enough to win.
Batherson’s first goal came just over 2:00 in when he forced a turnover and deked out Brad Thiessen, tucking it past the left pad of the Monsters’ netminder.
Elliott’s goal came on the power play at 19:45 when he pinched in off the right point and buried a shot over a sprawling Thiessen.
It was 2-0 Senators after the first.
Cleveland had the only goal of the second at 4:45 when Ryan Collins’ wrist shot from the point, bounced off a Senators player in front and got by Högberg to make it 2-1.
Chlapik got his goal in the third period, just after a power play expired, at 3:01.
The Monsters left him with a little too much space and he ripped a wrist shot past Thiessen, putting Belleville up 3-1.
Batherson’ second goal came 9:00 later on another power play, as he got into a good position at the side of the net and scored on a goal mouth scramble.
Cleveland got one more for good measure, courtesy of Justin Scott, but it only cut the lead to 4-2.
Batherson told media post game despite the recent success, with the 12 game point streak extended, players know they can’t get overconfident.
Belleville’s busy Family Day Weekend continues on Monday when they welcome the Laval Rocket to CAA Arena for a 2:00 p.m. puck drop.
The game can be heard on 800 AM CJBQ for Eastern Overhead Doors and Deerhaven Farm and Garden starting at 1:50 p.m.
